Abstract
The effect of sodium thiocyanate at constant salt mole fraction from 0 .01 to 0.05 and at saturation on the vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) of methyl acetate + methanol has been studied at 101.32 kPa using a modi fied Othmer equilibrium still. The salt exhibited both salting-in and salting-out effects on the methyl acetate, the azeotrope being elimina ted at saturation. The results were correlated using the extended UNIQ UAC model of Sander et al. and the electrolytic NRTL model of Mock et al.
