Absolute intensity measurements have been made in the nu(2) fundamenta
l band of nitrous oxide (N2O). The experiments were carried out indepe
ndently in two laboratories and despite the fact that the two Fourier
transform instruments are very different and required different data r
eduction techniques the results agree within the estimated experimenta
l errors. The square of the transition dipole is found to be 4.7538(58
) x 10(-3) D-2 and in addition there is a large Linear Herman-Wallis f
actor which gives rise to an R branch that is significantly stronger t
han the P branch.
