Ag. Atkins et W. Johnson, THE PLASTIC BENDING OF CLAMPED POLYGONAL PLATES WITH AN APPLICATION TO RADIAL BUCKLING IN MILK BOTTLE TOPS, International journal of mechanical sciences, 38(11), 1996, pp. 1187
Solutions for the plastic bending of clamped polygonal plates are inve
stigated. For an isosceles triangular plate, and for a truncated isosc
eles triangular plate, minima exist for plastic work of formation with
respect to angles of the triangle, and location of the apex of the de
formed pyramid shape. A characteristic number of radial buckles is for
med when the foil circular top of British one-pint milk bottles is pus
hed in and material drawn over the rim of the bottle on opening. The p
lastic bending analysis provides an approximate means of predicting th
e number of buckles. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
