Abstract
In most cases of gout, classic clues like monoarthritis of the great t oe, a pattern of recurring attacks, and characteristic tophi make diag nosis straightforward. When its presentation mimics that of other rheu matic conditions, however, misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment co uld impact negatively on both patient morbidity and cost-effectiveness of care.
