N. Yuceer et al., HUGE COLLOID CYST OF THE 3RD VENTRICLE ASSOCIATED WITH CALCIFICATION IN THE CYST WALL, Neurosurgical review, 19(2), 1996, pp. 131-133
Giant or huge colloid cysts of the third ventricle up to of more than
3 cm in diameter are extremely rare. The patient presented with sympto
ms of increased intracranial pressure, including headache, vomiting, a
nd papilledema. Computerized tomographic (CT) scan revealed a hypodens
e, huge colloid cyst of the third ventricle associated with calcificat
ion in the cyst wall. Both hypodensity and calcification are uncommon
roentgenological findings for colloid cysts of the third ventricle. Th
e patient was operated on by the transcortical/transventricular approa
ch and the colloid cyst was completely excised.
