In the U.S., the electric utility industry is a large consumer of wa ter resources. Understanding the factors which affect water resource m anagement is important for sustainable development as well as ecosyste m management. The effects of past and anticipated legislation in the U .S. addressing clean water issues important to the electric utility in dustry are discussed.
