Abstract
The controversy surrounding endoscopic carpal tunnel release is put in to historical perspective. The literature is reviewed and endoscopic c arpal tunnel release and open carpal tunnel release are compared. It i s concluded that endoscopic carpal tunnel release offers patients a sa fe, predictable solution to their carpal tunnel syndrome that will all ow them a rapid return to normal activities.
