Abstract
A highly oriented ultrathin organic film was successfully prepared on a silicon single-crystal surface by chemisorption of a silane coupling molecule to a silanol group on the substrate surface. The extended mo lecular chains of the film were found to align approximately perpendic ular to the substrate surface due to the close packing of organic mole cular chains. We successfully assembled an organic multimolecular-laye r film on a silicon surface with the repeated reaction of a bifunction al silane coupling molecule.
