Abstract
We report spectral line shapes which resemble window resonance profile s or hole-burning profiles of the resonance lines of barium and lithiu m using a thermionic diode detector. It is shown that the observed pec uliar line shapes arise from the reduction in the space-charge potenti al barrier height in the detector when a large number of ions are prod uced in the detector rather than from any atomic parameter.
