Reaction of the dichlorocomplex [Ni(Cl)(2)(PMe(3))(2)] with [Mg{CH(SiM
e(3))(2)}Cl] gave the dimer [Ni{CH(SiMe(3))(2)}(mu-Cl)(PMe(3))](2) (1)
, which, in the presence of Me(2)PCH(2)CH(2)PMe(2) (dmpe) and PMe(3),
afforded the monomeric alkyls [Ni{CH(SiMe(3))(2)}Cl(dmpe)] (2), and [N
i{CH(SiMe(3))(2)}Cl(PMe(3))(2)] (3), respectively. The spectroscopic p
roperties of 3 indicate a cis arrangement of the phosphine ligands whi
ch has been unambiguously confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray study [P
-Ni-P angle of 97.2(1)degrees]. Some chloride ligand replacement react
ions are reported as well as the outcome of the insertion of CNBu(t) i
nto the Ni-C bonds of 1. Spectroscopy and X-ray studies show the produ
ct of the latter reaction contains an eta(2)-alkaneimidoyl structure [
Ni{eta(2)-C(NBu(t))CH(SiMe(3))(2)}Cl(PMe(3))] (6). Copyright (C) 1996
