Abstract
Ethyl-1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylate (I) on condensation with ethy l orthoformate and various aromatic amines affords 3-aryl-4(3H)-oxopyr imido [4,5-a] anthraquinones (III). Analogous 3-alkyl and 3-amino comp ounds have been prepared by the reaction of ethyl-1-[(ethoxymethylene) imino] anthraquinone-2-carboxylate (II) with aliphatic amines and hyd razine hydrate respectively.
