Abstract
Mar and scratch resistance are very desirable characteristics of coati ngs, especially in the automotive and flooring industries. However, co nventional methods of measurement of the hardness and impact resistanc e do not provide relevent data on mar and scratch resistance. a scanni ng force microscope has been used to perform scratch tests. It is cons idered to be a more appropriate measurement of the mar and scratch res istance of surface coatings.
