Abstract
Communication: Functionalized poly(propylene imine) dendrimers are eff icient electron donors in photoinduced electron transfer reactions to Buckminsterfullerene in solution. The photoinduced electron transfer r eaction produces persistent fullerene radical anions at room temperatu re even with light switched off, as evidenced from ESR spectroscopy. T he reaction exhibits a remarkable size-effect: persistent electron tra nsfer is observed only for dendrimer generations G greater than or equ al to 2.
