SYNTHESIS OF A ZEOLITE FILM ON A MERCURY SURFACE

Communication: Polycrystalline zeolite films-of great importance in ca talysis, separation, and sensing-can be grown on various substrates, b ut in most cases there are problems in detaching the films. It is show n that a mercury surface accelerates the nucleation and crystallizatio n of MFI-type zeolites and that the surface of the film against the me rcury (left in Figure) is smoother than that on the solution side (rig ht in Figure).
