We report a case of a 69 years old woman who requested stopping long-t
erm dialysis. She did not suffer a serious medical deterioration, exce
pt a worsening quality of life. After a global evaluation (medical, ps
ychologic and social), several propositions to increase her state of l
ife done. Nine months later, she persisted in her request. She was adm
itted in a palliative care unit, and death occured 4 days later. A med
ical, juridic, ethic discussion and a literature review are proposed a
bout this difficult medical problem.
