Abstract
Two taraxastane-type hydroxy triterpenes, taraxasterol and faradiol, i solated from the flowers of Compositae plants Cynara scolymus (articho ke) and Chrysanthemum morifilolium (chrysanthemum), respectively, show ed strong inhibitory activity against 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-ace tate (TPA)-induced inflammation in mice. At 2.0 mu mol/mouse, these co mpounds inhibited markedly the tumor-promoting effect of TPA (1 mu g/m ouse) on skin tumor formation following initiation with 7,12-dimethylb enz[a]anthracene (50 mu g/mouse).
