Abstract
We have sequenced a simian varicella virus (SVV) open reading frame (O RF), 3,123 bp in length, whose product has 51% amino acid homology wit h the sequence encoded by the ORF of varicella-zoster virus gene 21, S everal regions are highly conserved between the two ORFs, with homolog ies of similar to 80%. The SW gene is transcribed in tissue culture ce lls productively infected with SW and in monkey ganglia latently infec ted with SW.
