Pl. Lopezdealba et al., A NEW SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHODS FOR BINA RY-MIXTURES RESOLUTION, Boletin de la Sociedad Chilena de Quimica, 41(2), 1996, pp. 111-119
In this work, a new spectrophotometric method for binary mixtures reso
lution is proposed. A simple mathematic algorithm was designed, in whi
ch the data are used from four linear regression calibration equations
: two calibrations for each component at two selected wavelengths. The
method of Kaiser was applied for selection of the optimum two-wavelen
gth sets for all mixtures under study. The recovery experiments were c
arried out in ten mixtures of the following dyes: tartrazine, sunset y
ellow, amaranth, erythrosin B and allura red. The obtained results wer
e compared with the results of commonly used derivative spectrophotome
tric procedure. The statistical evaluation of the method bias was perf
ormed and it was concluded that the proposed methodology is competitiv
e for the derivative procedure. The method proposed was applied to the
determination of two dyes in ''Kool-Aid'' samples of strawberry, incr
ediberry, cherry and pineapple artificial flavors and the results obta
ined were in agreement with those of the official methods.
