S. Riedemann et al., SEROPREVALENCE OF BVDV, BHV-1, PI-3 AND BRSV IN 12 DAIRY FARMS IN THEPROVINCE OF VALDIVIA, Archivos de medicina veterinaria, 28(1), 1996, pp. 121-124
The relevance that viral agents have in the presentation of respirator
y diseases in known world-wide. Nevertheless, in our country there is
little information and it is generally related to only one agent. This
communication reports the results of a serological survey for Bovine
Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV), Bovine Herpes Virus-1 (BHV-1), Parainflu
enza-3 Virus (PI-3) and Bovine Respiratory Syncitial Virus (BRSV). 286
4 sera from 12 dairy farms were analyzed for antibodies to PI-3 virus
by haemagglutination inhibition, to BVDV, BRSV and BHV-1 by virus neut
ralization. The herd seroprevalence was 100% for BVDV, PI-3 and BRSV a
nd 91.7% for BHV-1, and the individual seroprevalence 50.9%, 41.0%, 97
.1% and 51.8% for BVDV, BHV-1, PI-3 and BRSV respectively. These resul
ts would confirm, in the cattle of the herds analized, the possible re
levance of viral agents in the genesis of respiratory problems. For th
is reason, measures for their control and future erradication should b
e implemented.
