Rl. Rovere et al., UTILIZATION OF THE POLIPROPYLENE PLATE IN CARPOMETACARPAL ARTHRODESISOF AN EQUINE, Archivos de medicina veterinaria, 28(1), 1996, pp. 131-135
The surgical resolution of a carpal subluxation in an equine through t
he carpometacarpal arthrodesis with a stabilization plate of polipropy
lene is described. After an approach to the dorsal face of the carpus
the articular surfaces of the carpometacarpal joints were debrided by
a high-speed rotary burr and a T stabilization plate was attached. The
attachment was fixed by five cortical screws; two were fixed on the d
istal line of carpus and the other three on the dorsal face of metacar
pal III. Access to the joint was not difficult. The post-surgical stag
e was successful; the patient was walking normally after 12 months. Th
e carpometacarpal joint fusion was total. The technique proposed here,
could render good results in the treatment of carpal arthrodesis.
