We examined three hypotheses concerned with typical and atypical scrip
t actions by means of an association technique called the phrase compl
etion task. The first hypothesis stares that script-typical actions ar
e sequentially organized. This hypothesis could not be confirmed unequ
ivocally. The second hypothesis states that typical script actions are
part of superordinate scenes or categories. The results distinctively
support this hypothesis. The third hypothesis states that atypical sc
ript-relevant events are part of the generic knowledge structure. The
data confirm this hypothesis, too. Finally, possible disadvantages of
the phrase completion task are discussed.
