The aim of this study was to assess psychiatric disorders in patients
admitted in intensive care unit (ICU). Main aetiological factors leadi
ng to such troubles (weaning from benzodiazepines or opioid agents, or
ganic disturbances, sleep deprivation, pain and discomfort) are presen
ted, as semiological patterns, often poor; variable and unspecific. Sy
mptoms such as anxiety, depression, confusion and delirium presented b
y numbers of patients are analysed. Psychiatrist can help relieving ps
ychologic and psychiatric sufferings in patients hospitalized in inten
sive care. Propositions for facilitating and improve psychiatric work
in such an hostil environment are made by authors.
