Vm. Matyunin et al., METHODS AND INSTRUMENTS FOR RAPID NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION OF THE MECHANICAL-PROPERTIES OF METAL FROM THE PARAMETERS OF IMPACT TESTS, Russian journal of nondestructive testing, 31(8), 1995, pp. 619-624
Methods and instruments have been developed for quick nondestructive e
valuation of the yield point and ultimate strength of metal on the bas
is of impact-test parameters. The methods involve testing the metal by
indentation with a spherical indenter to determine parameters charact
erizing strain-hardening and hardness for specified values of contact
deformation. It is shown that it is possible to use nondestructive mea
ns to quantitatively evaluate yield point on the basis of hardness at
the yield point and evaluate ultimate strength on the basis of hardnes
s at the stress corresponding to the latter. Portable instruments have
been developed for nondestructively evaluating the mechanical propert
ies of metal directly in products. The areas of application of the met
hods and instruments are discussed.
