Vg. Berezkin et al., INVESTIGATION OF THE ROLE OF THE CARRIER GAS IN CAPILLARY GAS-SOLID CHROMATOGRAPHY, Russian chemical bulletin, 45(3), 1996, pp. 587-593
Nonideal interactions of the sorbate and the carrier gas and adsorptio
n of the sorbate an the adsorbent surface in capillary gas-solid chrom
atography were studied. Chromatographic retention was found to be larg
ely determined by adsorption processes. With respect to the retention
coefficients (capacity factors) of a sorbate (k) with different carrie
r gases (P-1 and P-2), the correlation relationship k(P-2) = A . k(P-1
) + B (A, B are parameters of the equation) is closely obeyed. The adv
antages of carbon dioxide as the carrier gas were analyzed; the use of
carbon dioxide allows the efficiency of the column to be enhanced.
