This paper aims at extending some results concerning the calculation o
f the residence time for linear systems to continuous flow nonlinear m
ultidimensional systems. It is shown that the solution of a nonlinear
system is equivalent to the solution of a linear system with time-vary
ing parameters. An algorithm for calculating the residence time for no
nlinear systems is developed. Simulation results dealing with three ex
amples show the feasibility and performance of this proposed algorithm
. However, this algorithm can be applied to other processes as well.
