Abstract
We designed an animal study (pigs) for evaluating the adhesions from c reated peritoneal defects following laparoscopic surgery in the Nation al Cheng Rung University Hospital. The second-look laparotomy was perf ormed 3-6 weeks later, In the group with peritoneal defects left open, 22% (2/9) of the pigs were in grade I adhesion, In the group with per itoneal defects repaired with staples, 11% (1/9) of the pigs were in g rade I adhesion, However, no significant difference in adhesions was n oted between these two groups (p > 0.05), We concluded that for reduci ng postoperative pelvic adhesions and saving operation time, repairing the large peritoneal defect remaining from laparoscopic surgery (LAVH or LH) is not necessary.
