A. Blinchevsky et al., AN INTESTINAL STROMAL TUMOR WITH GIANT CYST FORMATION MISDIAGNOSED ASENDOMETRIOMA, Journal of gynecologic surgery, 12(2), 1996, pp. 151-154
Primary neoplasms of the small intestine are rare, and correct preoper
ative diagnosis of these tumors is difficult, An intestinal neoplasm a
ppearing as a hemorrhagic cyst may be misdiagnosed as an endometrioma,
A case of leiomyoma with giant cyst formation preoperatively misdiagn
osed as endometrioma is presented, The histologic examination of the r
esected tumor predicted a benign course, It is not common for leiomyom
a to appear as a giant hemorrhagic cyst, and reports of such cases are
rare in the literature, However, a physician should consider gastroin
testinal tuner as a differential diagnosis for hemorrhagic cyst even i
f the diagnosis of endometriosis had been made previously, The stromal
tumors of the small bowel have an uncertain malignant potential and r
equire close follow-up.
