Abstract
Potassium phthalimide, K+.C8H4NO2-, a widely used reagent for the prep aration of anthranilic acid via Hofmann degradation or primary alkylam ines via the Gabriel synthesis, crystallizes in polar layers of potass ium cations coordinated by five O and three N centres alternating with apolar layers of stacked benzene subunits.
