A. Hlinak et al., THE LAYING HEN AS AN ANTIBODY SOURCE - EX PERIENCES WITH HUSBANDRY SYSTEMS, IMMUNIZATION AND EGG YIELD, Tierarztliche Umschau, 51(7), 1996, pp. 402-408
Avian egg yolk antibodies are a distinct alternative to mammalian anti
bodies. They are used widely in bioscience research and in diagnostic
systems. Various aspects of the advantages of laying hens as an antibo
dy source and a laboratory animal are described. Freud's adjuvant is u
sed for the induction of an immune response to the antigens, but cause
d considerable lesions in the tissues of chickens. The influences of a
djuvant and/or antigen on the egg laying capacity are discussed. New c
ages for the maintenance of chickens are described.
