O. Koller et al., ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COMPETENCE BE LIEFS AND THE PERFORMANCE IN CONTROLLING A COMPLEX PROBLEM, Sprache & Kognition, 14(4), 1995, pp. 210-220
Based on Dorner's (1985) general model oi action control, Staudel (198
7) elaborated the relationship between competence and performance in t
he domain of complex problem solving. Staudel assumes that a person's
actual competence can promote the performance in controlling a dynamic
system. In our study a longitudinal design with three measurement poi
nts was realized to investigate the relationship between competence an
d performance. N=60 subjects worked on different questionnaires and th
ree complex problems, all of which were economic scenarios. Path analy
ses show a substantial influence of the performance on the actual comp
etence, but no impact of the actual competence on the performance.
