Abstract
Reports of cross-infection with HIV and hepatitis C during routine sur gery in Sydney(1,2) have refocused attention an preventing transmissio n of HIV and other blood-borne viruses in the health care setting. Thi s review examines the risks of transmission in medical practice, summa rises infection contral measures and examines issues regarding the HIV -infected health care worker.
