A dedicated facility far gamma-gamma coincidence studies of (n,gamma)
reactions at thermal neutron energies is described. The facility and t
he adopted method of data acquisition make it possible to determine in
tensities of two step gamma cascades proceeding from the neutron captu
ring slate to a set of selected low-lying levels via resolved and unre
solved intermediate levels occurring between the neutron capturing sta
te and a final level of interest. A detailed description of the method
for accumulating the gamma-ray spectra, characterizing these two-step
cascades, is given including procedures for corrections of these spec
tra for various kinds of backgrounds and distortions.
