Abstract
A correlation is presented between the crystalline structure of monola yers and multilayers of alpha,omega-alkanediols HO-(CH2)(n)-OH (n = 16 , 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 30) at the air-water interface and their fun ction as ice nucleators. Structural elucidation was carried out by the following methods: grazing incidence X-ray diffraction, scanning forc e microscopy, cryo-transmission electron microscopy and external refle ction Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy.
