Amorphous and crystalline MINi(1.79), MINi(2.52) and MINi(3.44) films
were prepared by means of ion beam sputtering. Electrochemical propert
ies such as discharge capacity, discharge capability and charge-discha
rge cycle life were examined. The results showed that the crystalline
films had higher discharge capacity than the corresponding amorphous c
ounterparts. The high-rate dischargeability of amorphous samples was s
uperior to the crystalline counterparts. This could be ascribed to hig
h electrocatalytic activity of amorphous electrodes. In addition, the
amorphous film electrode also exhibited longer cycle life and excellen
t antipulverizability. Copyright (C) 1996 International Association fo
