The design of the fuel conditioning system for an electrochemical engi
ne using a methanol steam reformer/proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel
cell stack for terrestrial vehicle applications is discussed. The cur
rent requirements for PEM anode feed gas quality are described. A comp
arison of the various alternatives to the fuel purification sub-system
is given. The advantages and disadvantages of a number of purificatio
