The development of a German-language parent report for assessing early
language abilities is presented. The following questions were empiric
ally examined in three pilot studies: How homogenic or heterogenic are
the abilities investigated? How valid is the information given by the
mothers with regard to their children's level of development in vocab
ulary, syntax and morphology? Is the parent questionnaire a suitable i
nstrument for identification of children at risk for developmental dis
orders?
