G. Quarini et al., HYDRODYNAMIC MODELING OF SEDIMENTATION TANKS, Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Part E, Journal of process mechanical engineering, 210(E2), 1996, pp. 83-91
Sedimentation is one of the principal processes used in the water indu
stry to treat domestic and industrial effluents. In this paper the hyd
rodynamic characteristics of a standard circular sedimentation tank ha
ve been studied using a one-twentieth scale physical model and computa
tional fluid dynamics (CFD). The experimental data have been compared
with the numerical CFD predictions; good agreement has been obtained,
especially in areas of high flow velocity. The physical and numerical
models have been used to study the effects of tank configuration on it
s hydraulic performance.
