S. Baude et al., ANALYSIS OF THE SHAPE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL ABSORPTION-BAND OF CO IN SOME CHLORINATED SOLVENTS, Canadian journal of applied spectroscopy, 41(3), 1996, pp. 60-65
The fundamental infrared absorption band of CO in solution in four chl
orinated solvents has been recorded. Quantitative bandshape analyses h
ave been made in order to evaluate the band moments and autocorrelatio
n functions. Solute-solvent interaction is found to increase with the
dipole moment, but to decrease with the polarizability of the solvent
molecule. An analysis of the wings of the absorption bands shows that
rotation-vibration coupling is important and that a simple asymmetry c
orrection with the use of the Boltzmann factor is insufficient to acco
unt for the observed asymmetry.
