G. Dromart et al., CYCLIC FLUCTUATION OF CARBONATE PRODUCTIO N THROUGH THE JURASSIC ALONG A BURGUNDY-ARDECHE CROSS-SECTION, EASTERN FRANCE, Bulletin de la Societe geologique de France, 167(3), 1996, pp. 423-433
Relative carbonate accumulation rates are calculated through the Juras
sic from 2-D restored depositional geometries of a shelf-basin cross-s
ection. Rates show periodic cycles through time (12 and 19 Ma), with a
difference of one order of magnitude. Maximum rates are close in valu
e whatever the location, extent and nature of the carbonate factory. T
he results suggest that a carbonate platform drowning can actually be
induced by a major fall in carbonate production only. The long-term cy
cles in carbonate productivity are believed to have been under the con
trol of an ocean-related parametre that is the marine water CO2 conten
ts.
