Abstract
A series of nitrobenzeneacetic acids was prepared in 2 steps from nitr obenzenes via the vicarious nucleophilic substitution reaction. These acids undergo mild, base-mediated decarboxylation to give a convenient 3 step synthesis of alkylnitrobenzenes.
