Z. Ibrahim et al., TREATMENT OF AN AGGRESSIVE HAEMANGIOMATOUS LESION WITH ALPHA-INTERFERON, Pediatric surgery international, 11(5-6), 1996, pp. 366-369
Angiomatous lesions that follow an aggressive clinical course are fort
unately rare. Those that do may pose significant problems in managemen
t. Of the modalities of treatment, which include surgery, embolisation
, radiation, chemotherapy, and steroids, some are not without complica
tions and, as well, yield limited success. The use of interferon was f
irst reported in the treatment of pulmonary angiomatous diseases with
success [6] and has been followed by two papers reporting the use of a
lpha-interferon (AI) therapy on more heterogeneous angiomatous lesions
[5, 7]. We report a case of an infant with an aggressive haemangiomat
ous lesions of the right thigh that confirmed the efficacy of AI in tr
eating this type of condition.
