Congenital chylous ascites (CCA) results from maldevelopment of the in
tra-abdominal lymphatic system. Newborns present with respiratory dist
ress and abdominal distention. Medical treatment of CCA is often prolo
nged, A newborn with CCA was treated with octreotide, a somatostatin a
nalogue, resulting in rapid and complete resolution of the ascites.
