Copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes of benzoic acid [(furan-2-yl)methy
lene]hydrazide (BFMH), benzoic acid [1-(furan-2-yl)ethylidene]hydrazid
e (BFEH), benzoic acid [(thiophen-2-yl)methylene hydrazide (BTMH), ben
zoic acid [1-(thiophen-2-yl)ethylidene]hydrazide (BTEH), 2-furanyl car
boxylic acid (benzylidene)hydrazide (FCBH) and 2-thiophenyl carboxylic
acid (benzylidene)hydrazide (TCBH) have been synthesized and characte
rized by elemental analysis, conductivity, magnetic susceptibility mea
surements, IR, electronic and ESR spectral data. The electronic spectr
al data and the magnetic moment value suggest an octahedral structure
for all nickel(II) complexes, planer geometry for copper complexes of
BFMH, BTMH, FCBH and TCBH ligands and an octahedral geometry for the c
opper(II) complexes with BFEH and BTEH ligands.
