Sp. Chaudhury, ATOMIC-ABSORPTION SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF TRACES OF COPPER USING BIS(THIOPHENE-2-ALDEHYDO)THIOCARBOHYDRAZONE (BTATCH), Indian journal of chemistry. Sect. A: Inorganic, physical, theoretical & analytical, 35(8), 1996, pp. 714-715
A sensitive and selective method for analysis of Cu(II) by atomic abso
rption spectrophotometry in geological samples has been developed. Bis
(thiophene-2-aldehydo)thiocarbohydrazone forms a yellow complex with C
u(II) instantly at room temperature at pH 1.7-3. The yellow complex ha
s been extracted with methyl isobutyl ketone and organic phase analyse
d for Cu(II). The limit of detection, 13 ppb which corresponds to 1.3
ppm of the original rock samples, may be reduced considerably by incre
asing the organic:aqueous phase ratio.
