Abstract
The recoil velocity and alignment of S(D-1(2)) atoms produced by ultra violet photodissociation of OCS have been measured by a two-dimensiona l (2D) ion imaging method. The polarization dependence of the 2D image s has been analyzed quantum mechanically, and helicity distributions h ave been determined for different velocity components of S(D-1(2)) ato ms. The results show that the dissociation of OCS --> CO((1) Sigma(+)) + S(D-1(2)) occurs via two major pathways, and both of these processe s produce the asymptotic states in A' and A '' symmetry.
