Abstract
A field experiment was conducted to compare local chickpea (Giza 2) an d its recently developed cultivar L(3). The two genotypes were examine d for biological dinitrogen fixation and P uptake as enhanced by inocu lation with Rhizobium (Rh) and/or arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM). Signific ant increase in dry mass was obtained by biological inoculation. Soil chemical and physical properties have a significant effect on the abil ity of the two genotypes to fix nitrogen on their P uptake and N conte nt. Growth of the local genotype (G(2)) was pronounced in sandy loam s oil as compared with the sandy one.
