In the past year, animal studies on central nervous system demyelinati
on have focused on therapeutic strategies and the functional character
ization of T-cells, cytokines, and adhesion molecules. Significant pro
gress has been realized in the treatment of animals with experimentall
y induced demyelinating disease using glial cell transplants, autoanti
bodies, cytokines, growth factors, and by inhibiting adhesion molecule
s and cytokines, In this review, we summarize the important contributi
ons made in those respective areas.
