Bi-2-propanol and Au-2-propanol colloids have been prepared by chemica
l liquid deposition (CLD). The metals are evaporated to yield atoms wh
ich are solvated to yield metal atoms at 77 K, and, upon warming, stab
le liquid colloids are formed with a narrow range of particle size dep
ending on the time and room temperature. Zeta potentials were calculat
ed for these negatively charge particles according to the Hunter conve
ntion and the Huckel equation. A study of particle size growth at room
temperature was performed. The Bi particle size was followed at t = 0
, 30, 60, 90, and 120 min and Au particle size was followed at t = 0,
1, 2, 3, and 4 days, by transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
