Abstract
1-Methyl-gamma-carboline derivatives were transformed into the corresp onding N-aminoazinium salts, which were condensed with 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds (Westphal reaction) to afford azonia derivatives with a brid gehead quaternary nitrogen atom.
