Jcr. Deazevedo et J. Nozaki, DIFFERENTIAL-PULSE POLAROGRAPHIC-DETERMIN ATION OF CYANIDE IN EFFLUENTS OF MANIOC MEAL INDUSTRIES, Arquivos de biologia e tecnologia, 39(1), 1996, pp. 149-155
There are several industries manufacturing Cassava products in Brazil
and other tropical countries. Some Cassava, like Manihot esculenta Cra
ntz and Manihot utiliss, are largely used for the manioc meal producti
on or directly used as an important source of human food. The general
problem associated with the manioc meal production is the effluent wit
h high level of organic matter and the toxic cyanide. The differential
pulse polarographic technique was studied for the determination of cy
anide using the buffer solution of tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (TR
IS) as supporting electrolyte. This technique is an useful alternative
to the classical spectrophotometric methods for cyanide determination
in wastewaters.
